this section is still a work in progress

2014 - 2018

MATTyP, or Matt Phillips, has been evolving his mixed media design, photography, and videography through self-taught styles and personal technique of in-your-face antidesign and vintage imperfection muse. Originally starting with audio and web development based high school classes, Many of the elective classes and extra curriculums throughout secondary years of school were tech, music, media, or design related such as;

• 3 Semesters of Graphic Design
• 1 Semester of Photography (+1 year extra curricular)
• 1 Semester of VREP (Blender Animation class)
• 1 Semester of Web Design (HTML Coding Intro)
• 1 Semester of music appreciation (Studying and Hands On with audio stems in mixcraft)
• Extra help for photography in yearbook publications

Throughout these years, Photoshop prevailed over Illustrator as the program of choice, using the manipulation style editing to create fictional vehicle liveries for NASCAR Racing 2003 Season, a 20+ year old PC Video Game with an active modding community still to this day. Most early works consist of those and school projects to learn certain Adobe software, most of which can still be found on the original weebly page mattphillipsdesigns.weebly.com

2019 - 2022

Shortly after starting at a retail job, the COVID-19 Pandemic began and halted any future plans for the time being. While focusing on retail, more and more people took over video media such as YouTube and TikTok. With the latter feeling oversaturated for the intended niche, TikTok was chosen as the platform for retro tech related content.

Various video editing techniques we learned for both mobile and computer style editors, as well as video shooting tips with some TikTok shorts or YouTube videos showcasing older camcorders. There was a fun community of camera enthusiasts and vinyl record collectors for the few years spent on TikTok. Content on YouTube stuck to longer and more vlog style videos on various camcorders, ranging from digital, analog tape, and even floppy disk. Many videos were recorded just at home, making some uploads a time capsule for what was happening in life as most free time available to record was alone in the middle of the night.

What I used and learned

• CapCut (iOS)
• Adobe Premiere Pro
• Handbrake
• HitFilm Express
• FiLMiC Pro
• Topaz Video AI

What's ahead?

Around 2023, a break from creating content solo for two platforms was needed and slowly shifted toward being less active on social media. In this time there was an influx of personal events, as well as enjoying the lessened restrictions of the covid shutdowns. Content from personal interests such as wrestling events and music festivals was a focus for a bit, but eventually nature itself was calling, and getting outside became more of a priority. There was a brief pause with almost everything, mainly focussing on gaming and creative personal projects with small assets for games such as WWE 2K and Cities Skylines

Over the past year, graphic design has regained a personal interest as the mainstream style has finally drifted away from flat 2D doodles. While finding a style in that, photography came back after attempting to take better eBay and Mercari pictures. Presentation became key, and a photobox opened up the clean environment needed.
